Club Soda, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, September 8, 1997

We’ve gone north of the border and landed on a gem that not too many people were aware of at the time…or maybe even since. Having played some traditional arenas and stages in the mid-1990’s, the boys find themselves back where it all began.…in a bar. Only this time, it’s in the 2nd largest French-speaking city in the world….certainly a world away from Athens, GA. From the opening notes of “Heroes” all the way through the 4 song encore, however, the crowd makes the boys feel right at home. Whether you were there or have heard it since….you haven’t heard it like this. WP Sound Engineer Chris Rabold has once again dialed in the multi-track mix that puts you right in front of the soundboard and captures the energy that creates this show.
Club Soda was a little out of the way for most….which was probably a good thing since at the time the capacity was only around 400 people. And after all, it was a Monday night…in Canada… and the fourth show in a row to open the tour. But sometimes and somehow, those easy-to-miss shows have a way of setting the energy just right so the band and the crowd have a little head start in finding the night’s magic. For those that made the trip, it was well worth the effort and they were rewarded. For the rest of us, our time is now. Well, almost now.
So, take a trip out to LiveWidespreadPanic.com or Widespread Merchandise for the pre-order routine, hang tight until the official release date of 10/6/09 hits and then sit back, relax, and enjoy our road trip to Canada.

One of the best Panic shows of all time.
Great choice! More Mikey!!!
That’s pretty funny, not a huge fan but this was my one and only WSP show. BTW-the venue is no longer there.
hey chris rabold,
just wondering if jb & mikey are panned on this release like they are on #3…
thanks
Nice
Thanks a million Horace, Chris & WSP! Can’t wait for this one. But there is no way you can top Huntsville 1996, the best thing Widespread Panic has released in their career!! Dgold
YES!!!!
Hey Chris — thanks for your continued hard work! Really good to see a 97′ show made the cut!
One of? I thought it WAS the best panic show of all time. Question – the email I just got says the last song of disc 3 is tall boy. What about the JB solo LGTSOTR? Please don’t tell me it got lost in translation???
hey there…no need for concern as that email had a typo at the end. LGTSOTR is intact for sure….check out livewidespreadpanic.com for a correct listing and some audio clips. Thanks for the support.
Man, I’m already psyched about this release. Please keep the speed up on the releases. Remember you have only 500 years. How about a 2-3 night run? Jam on.
Woohoo! Awesome. Glad to hear it! Thanks Horace
OMG…THANKS!
Why no second encore of JB Solo doing Lets Get The Show On The Road included. That was the part of the show I was looking forward to the most.
ahhhh 1997, the year I really thought the Transformation of Widespread Panic took place. After this year things got bigger. Its great to hear Mikey. Hopefully 7-1-1999 comes thru the archives!!!!
The LGTSOTR is on there…just a typo on the email. Go to livewidespreadpanic.com and it’s all there with audio clips for a taste of what’s to come.
Just sitting here listening to Huntsville. I still can not believe what I am hearing. Since the Pacific Northwest was not included(Please visit,we miss you guys)on their new tour, I am stoked a new archive is being released. Super, fantastic, incredible job on Huntsville(and the rest). My ears tingle with anticipation upon hearing the new release. Thanks for all your time and work, it is truly appreciated.
good stuff! thanks for all the work!
I was at this show! What a great night!
OH MY OH MY OH MY!!!!!! I have been waiting for this to reach for 12 years…HAS IT BEEN THAT LONG!!!! WHAT A NIGHT…I was standing right in front of M Houser that night and I had no idea what a treat I was in for… the venue has moved since…it’s now called Cola Note… But Damn Man the Travellin Light destroyed me and the Wrangler tore the frame off the place! I’ve had this on tape and CD a number of times as a friend of mine was taping that night… Can’t wait to hear the Board… We gave the boys a Rowdy Canadian Welcome and from the opener on everybody was feelin’ that magic and “Havin’ a Good Time”!!!! Thank you so much PANIC!!!
Oh Yes…
And Please Please Please don’t cut out J.B. saying “Merci Montréal!” in his southern drawl… It capped off the night perfectly!
Thanks AGAIN Panic!!!
Awesome selection Horace!! can’t wait to hear this one! and btw to petr,, if you are not a fan of panic, and this was your only show,, why in the world are you posting here??
Am lloking forward to the new release as well! Thx Horace
excellent work , look forward to charlotte….. Smokin Pig
Ain’t Life Grand! One of first shows I have experienced!
Looking forward to it…it’s going to be hard to top the 4/3/96 show…excellent choice from 97…possibly the best year of Panic ever!
This show looks awesome! First set looks so killer. Nice choice choosing an outside the States show. Can’t wait to listen. Charlotte next weekend! Wooo!!!!
Nice site!
Looks tasty. How about a live release with a really killer version of North? This is one of my favorite covers and I don’t think it has been on an official release.
A smokin’ Bowlegged would be much appreciated as well. Thanks for these releases. Despite my requests, I have long felt that it ain’t what they play but how they play it.
RMPrto I want to say – thank you for this!
I am stoked to see that this has been released. Drove up from Vermont to see this show and was by far the best I have ever seen. To see them in a small bar was awesome and the setlist was titties. Can’t wait to listen to the show again as I have worn out the tape copy that I got 12 years ago.
my first show. reediculus sp.I know. my head got spun 15 miles above the city and landed backwards in. right where it belonged.
THX WSP for this. It sure has been a long time since I thought about how much fun I had at that show. It was great being able to be 3 ft. from Houser all night long!
My audience recordings sound awesome, but this is the icing on the cake. What an incredible performance.
I am sure everyone’s spine will be tinglin’ when the re-live this one.
Thanks Homer for all the hard work and time you are investing in the archive. You are doing a superb job in providing us Old School SpreadHeads with sounds fronm the Good Ole Days. GreenChilly suggested a show with north. I would suggest 7-9-00 from little rock arkansas would be a good choice correct me if i am wrong but they played north for the second time at this show and down for he second time sunny on todd’s drums for drum solo killer show. and one of my personal favorites is 7-9-99 Big Mountain ski resort Somebody throw me a Whitefish smokin 1st and 2nd set they segued every song during both sets with a couple of stops. They played a acoustic set at Dire Wolf pub after the show
I was there, and I have to agree, it was one of the finest shows in my memory!!! Those brownies really set it off! WOW! I’m still searching for another show of that magnitude! Can’t wait to hear the latest mix…
Jamming this show right now, please keep it coming. When are we going to get a 2-3 night run?
P
Had this tape (aud) a few nights after the show, could not make it, kicked myself in the pants. Got to see the boys at The Opera House in Toronto 2 nights later….but just kicked myself again for not getting to MTL. Keep up the good work, keep the Mikey shows comin’!
thanks for all !! WIDESPREAD PANIC….I LOVE YOU
