I have always wondered (and have heard a couple reasons)but why did the show stop abruptly? Please shed some light on this Horace, Pleas…
The show was stopped by the police because of neighborhood complaints. This venue was a bowling alley/sand volleyball court, and they would have the shows out in the volleyball area. Apparently the WSP speaker stacks were pointed toward the surrounding neighborhoods. I don’t know much more than that.

I was at the show along with some people from Omaha and apparently there had been complaints about noise from nearby residents at other shows there. So they had the police ready to measure the sound and they were determined to be in violation and they shut it down for that reason. I heard also that they warned the band during setbreak but I don’t remember the exact details of that.
This show was shut down due to a noise ordinance in the city… It was actually garbage. The venue was close to a neighborhood and this event just happened to be the third outdoor show in a row and the neighbors apparently had enough and the law shut it down. People got pretty heated and started throwing beers and what-not at the stage. JoJo finally had to come out to calm the crowd… Sucked it happened but made for a great story. Amazing that we went to the show the next night in K.C. and they started right where they left off.
I’m pretty sure they shut it down because people in the neighborhood had called in and complained about the noise. The show was outside in the sand volleyball courts at a little bar in a residential area. Apparently some people in the neighborhood were not fond of Panic and decided to ruin our fun. The venue is now closed…. Was a great show while it lasted. Still bummed I wasn’t able to make it to the next night and missed out on what would have been my last “Sandbox”.
If my memory serves me, the show ran past the established end time and the Omaha police/venue security just shut it down. They were quite abrupt, no warning, just shut off the power and sent everyone packing.
This was the third outdoor show in a short amount of time at the Ranch Bowl. Ani DeFranco and Ziggy Marley were the previous shows. Neighbors got tired of the volume and called the cops.
I was at the Omaha show in 1999 and the reason why the show was stopped so abruptly was because the cops pulled the plug on them. Apperently they were playing too loud and we were being to crazy. Well little did the cop know he was going to be pelted with beer bottles when he walked on the stage. DON’T MESS WITH OUR PANIC PIGS!!!!!
Jeff good queston about this show. I was a bartender and assistant manager at the Ranch Bowl at this time and here is the rest of the story. . . It was an amazing run of shows at the Bowl for 10 straight days we had shows both inside and outside some on the same nights here are a few I remember, Ziggy Marley and the melody makers, Annie Defranco, ICP wiht the Kottonmouth Kings, Reel Big Fish wiht a whole slough of people, GWAR, and the list went on. Panic was the last show outside during this wonderful run. The neighborhod’s frustration was increasin with each nights outdor prefromance, the previous night was the Reel Big Fish show and there were tons of profanity laced songs and complaints were flowing in. That night the fans came streaming in for what would be a memorable show for the wrong reasons. The second set had just started and no doubt the crowd had retired to their cars for set break coffee talk. The blue hairs of the hood could take no more. So the city councilmenwhose district it was (Mark Kraft) decided to get a bunch of cops and come up on stage to shut this party down. Pure devastation and anger set in after that . . . Panic was just a victim of circumstance being the last show during a busy month.
That is how I recall the story. Thanks for asking the question so I dig up some memories.
Jeff – I was at this show. Outdoor venue. Local pub that the outdoor space was otherwise used for a bunch of sand volleyball courts. I guess the town or that area had a noise ordinance past 10 pm (or whenever they shut it down). Without any notice, “the man” simply pulled the plug on the performance. A few fans not thinking clearly started booing and throwing their beers and such, before the band’s crew came on stage and reminded people they were just ruining the band’s gear. Coming from Colo., we were just going to see that one show and head back. But after that ending (and the band was sounding sooo good), we called an audible and headed south to KC. All the while, wondering how or if the band would address the previous night’s situation. We thought maybe they’d say something. In hind sight, the band handled it in typcal Panic fashion. They let the music speak for itself….picking up on the note the plugged was pulled on, then going into “Wish You Were Here”, All Time Low….and Sandbox (again, the Omaha venue was on sand volleyball courts). Pretty sweet. Pretty epic. Pretty Panic. Enjoy your day man.
